Our Director
We are extremely please to announce that Professor Fred Nyline has joined us as director and Chesley Talissé has joined us as Assistant Director.

Frederick Nyline conducted the Luther College Concert Band, Varsity Band, and the Wind and Percussion Ensemble for 38 years. He also taught advanced instrumental conducting. Before joining the Luther faculty in 1973, Nyline served on the faculty of the University of Minnesota as associate director of bands and director of the University Men’s Chorus. He has been a guest faculty member at the University of Illinois and director of bands in the Austin, Minn., school system. Nyline frequently served as guest conductor for the Musashino Academia Musicae Wind Ensemble in Tokyo, Japan.

Nyline has served as festival director, guest conductor, clinician and adjudicator throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, and the Pacific Rim, including such locations as Alaska, Hawaii, Japan, Okinawa, Taiwan, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines. Under Nyline’s direction, the Concert Band has performed at numerous state and national music conventions, has participated in yearly Midwest tours, two European tours, two extended tours of the West Coast and Hawaii and three tours of Japan and China. The Band toured Japan again in May 2010.

Chesley Talissé is a graduate of Baldwin Wallace University Conservatory of Music, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Music Education. Chesley's teaching experience includes working with instrumentalists of all ages and all levels of experience. She is committed to community outreach and has conducted the New Horizons Band in Berea, Ohio. This program consisted of 150+ adults. She also has worked and conducted the middle school students at Baldwin Wallace College Summer Band.

Chesley currently teaches music at Richland Academy School of Excellence in Mansfield Ohio where she is the founder of the K-8th grade music curriculmn. She teaches K-8 grade general music, she is the director of all bands, choirs, directs the musicals, A Cappella Choir, Rock Ensemble, piano lab and their Orff Ensemble. Chesley also comes from a performance background and performs with two jazz ensembles as a clarinet player and vocalist as well as has a passion for theatre. She has performed with the Galion Community Theatre and the Renaissance Theatre playing many different roles in Mansfield Ohio and is a part of the GCT Theatre Board. Chesley Talisse also currently teaches clarinet and beginning piano private lessons at the Richland Academy.
